Mechatronics and Motoristics

Reading the business pages of a newspaper, it is quite common to find the label "Motor Valley" or "Packaging Valley" associated with the name of the Emilia-Romagna region. Behind these two definitions lies the whole system of mechanics, mechatronics and engine design, three sectors that we are presenting concurrently and that represent the backbone of the regional production base. This sector includes a great number of companies, so much so as to typify the local manufacturing industry.

Emilia-Romagna has always stood out as an international excellence in the field of mechanics, with high competitiveness, players of global standing and numerous, highly-specialized medium and small businesses. The region boasts leaders in market niches, for example, in the fields of automated machines, machine tools, packaging and hydraulics. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati and Maserati: these names would be enough to convey the importance of the motor industry’s historical vocation and tradition in Emilia-Romagna. Naturally, alongside these giants in the sector we find a vast network of businesses that exist not only for cars, motorbikes and related components, but also for the creation of similar sectors, equally outstanding, such as boat building, aeronautics and space, and advanced materials, just to name a few. In addition, every manufacturing plant now includes systems, machines, modules and components that integrate mechanics, electronics, ICT technologies and materials technologies: mechatronics, as this specific sector is defined, used both at the level of machinery and equipment and consumer products, becomes a driving force for the regional economy.

It goes without saying that the entire system, so well established and diversified, is often at the forefront of manufacturing and capable of  rapidly absorbing technological developments and above all of finding specific, original and customized applications for them.
